International Students
Taroona High School has established a strong International Student Program. By welcoming students from overseas we are learning to appreciate their cultures and we value the students’ presence here.

Our program starts as soon as the student arrives at school. After assessing their language ability we arrange a learning timetable that includes English as an Additional Language as well as mainstream subjects. Students with less ability in English can attend English classes more frequently until they become more proficient. This is assisted by the immersion in English in all classes and chosen learning opportunities.

Our Orientation programs involves a day where students are introduced to ‘All Things Australian’ (Aussie Rules Football, Tim Tams, Cricket, Lamington and Australian Terminology) and a visit to major places of interest in Hobart. Throughout the year, students are given the opportunity to go on other excursions to various places around Tasmania.

The teacher/counsellor closely monitors the students’ progress and reports regularly to parents or guardians. We are in contact with homestay carers so that we are aware of the students’ comfort and well-being.

Please see the Government Education and Training International website for specific details and information relevant to International Students
